The 2nd meeting of the National Carbon Pricing Specialized Working Group, established within the scope of our country’s Green Deal Action Plan, was held in a hybrid format at the Iller Bank Social Facilities in Ankara, with a wide group of participants consisting of the public sector, private sector, and non-governmental organizations. Important developments in carbon pricing were discussed at the meeting, where Orhan Solak, President of Climate Change, delivered the opening speech.

In the meeting moderated by Dr. Abdülkadir Bektaş, Vice President of Climate Change, E. Kaan Moralı, Head of the Carbon Pricing Department, informed the working group about the activities carried out after the Climate Council Decisions and current carbon pricing activities.

During the working group meeting, the demands of our private sector, particularly regarding the emission trading system, were conveyed to the members by Saygın Baban, Head of the TOBB Sectors and Entrepreneurship Department, and Burcu Bektaş, Chair of the TÜSİAD Climate Change and Paris Agreement Sub-Working Group.

At the meeting, Climate Change Expert Okan Uğurlu informed the participants about the sub-processes of the Emission Trading System (ETS) and summarized the parameters to be considered in ETS design.

In addition, Taha Taşdemir, Environmental Markets Director at EPİAŞ, made a presentation on the YEK-G System and discussed the potential relationships that the YEK-G system could establish with the ETS and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

In order for the working group to carry out its future work in more detail, the establishment of the Emission Trading System and Offsetting Mechanism sub-working groups was unanimously approved.

Vice President Dr. Abdülkadir Bektaş concluded the meeting by stating that efforts in the field of carbon pricing cannot be realized without public-private sector cooperation, and that all relevant institutions and organizations must provide support in both legislative preparation work and technical processes in this area.
